SYNOPSIS –
Humanity is running out of time. As violence, hatred, and greed poison mankind’s relationship with one another, the animals, and the planet, Satan and his army of demons and half-demons prepare to bring the world to its knees.
Set in Philadelphia, NOLA SANCHEZ is a newly appointed angel sent back to Earth by God to help save humanity. In life, Nola was a bisexual atheist, police detective, and mixed martial arts fighter—brash, tattooed, tough as nails, and unapologetically rebellious. She cannot understand how she made it into Heaven, much less why God chose her for such an extraordinary mission.
On Earth, Nola meets PASTOR WHITNEY JACOBS, a woman with a powerful connection to God who has prayed for help as the world descends into hatred, violence, corruption, and despair. Nola is also assigned a mentor, MARC PIERCE, a veteran angel charged with preparing the stubborn, hotheaded newcomer for battle.
Nola initially resists God’s will. She cannot believe in a God who allows poverty, homelessness, racism, murder, war, suffering, and death. Her mission also forces her to confront the painful relationship she left behind with her parents, DANI and BLAKE SANCHEZ. A strict pastor, Blake refused to let Nola attend Juilliard or pursue a career singing secular music. After discovering her having sex in his home, he threw her out. They never reconciled before Nola was killed by a drunk driver.
Marc gives Nola “The Book,” a guide to the powers, rules, and responsibilities of an angel. Through it, she learns that humanity’s growing cruelty has weakened the barrier between Earth and Hell. Half-demons disguised as humans now walk among the living, carrying out Satan’s will. Nola and eight other angels stationed around the world have been chosen to stop them and save humanity’s souls.
A black belt skilled in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and Tae Kwon Do, Nola is also highly trained with samurai swords, Eskrima sticks, and a bo staff. Armed with these abilities and her supernatural strength, she wages war against the half-demons. But when the other angels are killed, Satan emerges from Hell with an army of full demons, leaving Nola as humanity’s final defense.
The Book reveals that humanity can still be redeemed through repentance, faith, and love. Nola gives Pastor Jacobs an enormous mission: unite religious leaders across nations, faiths, and languages and gather millions of people to recite a prayer sent directly from God.
As Nola battles Satan, people around the world pray with one voice, weakening the demons and driving them back toward Hell. Facing her final battle, Nola asks God for help, rediscovers her faith, and finds renewed hope in humanity. She defeats Satan, and God seals him and his demons in Hell forever.
Before returning to Heaven, Nola looks upon a transformed world where humanity has chosen peace, compassion, and love over hatred. For now, Earth has become a little more like Heaven.
