DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

JILLIAN BULLOCK

WRITER, DIRECTOR, PRODUCER, ACTRESS, FIGHT CHOREOGRAPHER

Rebirth is not going to be your typical movie that involves boxing. It is a story built on forgiveness, love, respect, redemption, and faith, especially for the main character, Jewel Paige, who I portray. She is a 58 year old former teacher, who has lived in an abusive marriage for the past 10 years.

The movie will deal with a hard hitting topic - domestic violence, especially intergenerational domestic violence. Passing the low self-esteem and lack of confidence down from one generation to the next. Thinking you’re not worthy of love so you accept the beatings, the verbal and mental abuse, the sexual assault.

Finding one’s voice, and in doing so, anyone who is in a domestic violent situation, can overcome the hardships, challenges and obstacles. Transforming one’s mind, body and spirit to live a happy, productive, and successful life personally and professionally.

I hope the film will ‘empower’ and ‘impact’ men and women who are experiencing domestic violence while exploring topics such as – why victims stay in abusive relationships, the psychology behind those enduring domestic violence, the path to breaking free from a toxic relationship, and those who have a “rebirth” in order to transform from a Victim to a Victor.

The transformation journey - Jewel Paige will go on her emotional journey throughout the movie as she deals with various issues in her life. Past pains and trauma. Emotional strife. Major mistakes. Lost promises. But hope for new beginnings.

Rebirth’s story is a fresh, new point of view. Something that’s never been seen or done before.

I want people, especially people over 50, to see that change can happen despite one’s age. No matter what has happened in your past, what is happening now in your life, you can transform and be a better, healthier, and happier you. That’s what my character, Jewel, represents.

It’s the reason why I do movies and tackle tough subjects. I know what people are going through. I was raped when I was a young girl and I’ve dealt with domestic violence in past relationships.  I have transformed my own life from a Victim to a Victor.  I share my story of faith and resilience, empowerment and healing, and how to use pain for purpose, through media interviews and speaking engagements.

WHAT MAKES REBIRTH DIFFERENT?

You have to remember Jillian Bullock, who is directing and portraying the lead female actor, is in her early 60’s in real life. The extensive training - boxing, martial arts, strength training, cardio and endurance conditioning, and high intensity interval training - she’s doing to get in “fight shape’ to look and perform as a boxer, at her age, plus direct the movie, has never been done before in any other film.

Jillian is rewriting the rules of what’s possible, which is one of the reasons why Rebirth will be different, unique, and amazing for audiences to watch.

A great deal of publicity will surround Jillian’s training for the movie and what she eats as a vegan athlete. Videos are also constantly being posted on social media and Rebirth The Movement Youtube channel showcasing Jillian’s training and her nutrition program. She is training to look like the female version of Michael B. Jordan in those Creed movies.

FAITH-BASED FRIENDLY

Faith-based films have been a mainstay of Hollywood almost since the advent of cinema," says Comscore box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian.

Faith-based films have been getting bigger and better over the years. In fact, the main topic on an episode of ‘CBS Sunday Morning' is how films about the power of faith and prayer are taking over Hollywood.

It’s interesting to note that according to the Pew Research Center, Christianity in the U.S. has declined, dropping from 78% in 2007 to 63% in 2021. However, the audience for faith-based movies has grown, especially in recent years with all that’s going on in the world – Covid, wars, increase in mass shootings, higher number of suicides, natural disasters, and dissention in politics, people are looking for movies that offer hope.

“There’s a deep hunger for spiritually significant stories” said Craig Detweiler, president of The Wedgewood Circle, a nonprofit that raises money for faith-based movies, especially when the pandemic reminded us of our mortality.”

Even though Rebirth will be a faith-based movie it’s not necessary geared toward just Christians. It will also be a movie for people who have been, or who are currently, in a domestic violence situation, for people who are dealing with physical hardships, and people who enjoy boxing. So Rebirth will appeal to a general audience as a faith inspiring movie for ages 18-70.

T.D. Jakes said, "From an evangelistic perspective, there are more people in the theater on Friday night than there are in the pews on Sunday morning. So, you have a huge chance to reach a wider array and a different demographic of people with a message of faith and positivity."
