SYNOPSIS –
SASHA MAXWELL, a former Philadelphia homicide detective now working as a forensic investigator, is devastated when her husband, Army Captain JASON MAXWELL, is reported killed three months into his deployment to Iraq.
A month later, Sasha is assigned to investigate the high-profile murder of NANCY RICHARDSON, the mayor’s daughter. The lead detective is Sasha’s former partner, CICERO VAZQUEZ, while ALEXANDER WOO, her current forensics partner, assists with the evidence. Nancy’s autopsy reveals that she gave birth shortly before her death, but no one knows where the baby is—or whether it is still alive.
Sasha soon receives a mysterious envelope containing photographs of Jason and Nancy together. Determined to uncover their connection, she and Alexander launch a secret investigation. They discover that Jason was Nancy’s half-brother and had contacted her five months before her murder. They also learn that Nancy was having an affair with GOVERNOR TATE and that he is the father of her missing child.
Tate is running for president with GENERAL ARNOLD as his vice-presidential candidate. The two men are connected to an illegal black-market adoption operation that Nancy discovered before her death. Desperate to protect their political ambitions and destroy the evidence, they hire NELSON BROOKS, a ruthless hitman, to kill Nancy and to find Nancy’s baby and eliminate anyone who stands in their way.
Sasha and Cicero trace the photographs of Jason and Nancy to DAVID WINSTON, a former FBI agent. Winston reveals that Jason never made it to Iraq. On the night he was supposed to leave, his car crashed, and two unidentified men removed his body from the wreckage. Sasha realizes Jason’s military funeral was staged and that someone with significant power inside the Army orchestrated the deception. Evidence soon points to General Arnold.
Sasha discovers that Nancy hid proof of the baby’s identity and the illegal adoption operation at her family’s mountain cabin. She and Cicero travel there, but Brooks follows them. When Brooks shoots Cicero, Sasha uses her mixed martial arts training to overpower and kill him. While Cicero undergoes surgery, Sasha returns home—only to be attacked by another gunman. After killing him, she hears a struggle in her den and finds Jason fighting a second assassin.
Sasha is stunned to discover that her husband is alive. Jason claims he has amnesia and remembers little beyond escaping his captors. Believing they are both in danger, Sasha takes him to his secluded cabin in the Poconos.
But the man beside her is not Jason. He is JASPER RILEY, an international assassin surgically altered to resemble Jason. Tate and Arnold had Jason kidnapped and tortured for information about Nancy and the baby. When Jason proved useless, Brooks killed him. Jasper’s mission is to gain Sasha’s trust, locate Nancy’s evidence and baby, and then murder Sasha.
After Sasha reveals that she possesses a flash drive containing evidence against Tate and Arnold, Jasper secretly copies the files and sends them to Arnold. Before Jasper can complete his mission to kill Sasha, Arnold arrives with armed men to eliminate them both. Realizing he has been double-crossed, Jasper and Sasha fight their way out.
When Sasha returns to the cabin for her laptop, she finds Tate waiting for her. Jasper shoots Tate, then turns his gun on Sasha. Before he can kill her, Cicero arrives and shoots him dead. Sasha turns Nancy’s evidence over to the FBI, allowing federal agents to dismantle the illegal adoption network and identify the remaining people involved. Nancy’s baby is found alive and placed in protective custody with foster parents.
